Emotion Dreams: Being Chased, Flying, Fear
Fear, joy, being chased, flying… Emotional and situational dreams reveal our inner tensions and our deepest aspirations.
Some dreams aren't anchored in a particular object or place, but in an emotion or a situation: being chased, flying, falling endlessly, finding yourself unable to scream. These situational dreams are often the most intense and the most vividly remembered, precisely because they activate our emotional systems in a visceral way. Freud saw in them the disguised expression of repressed desires and anxieties, particularly those tied to sexuality and aggression. Jung interpreted them as messages from the collective unconscious about the state of the individuation process. Contemporary research in sleep neuroscience confirms that the amygdala (the seat of emotions) is especially active during REM sleep, which would explain the intense emotional charge of these dreams. Whether they speak of fear, flight, release, or exhilaration, these dreams tell us something essential about our inner state.
